Review Velocity
The rate at which a business accumulates new reviews — a more important ranking signal than total review count.
Review velocity is reviews-per-time-period, typically measured monthly over the past twelve months. Engines weight recent reviews more heavily than old ones because recency signals an active, current business.
A business with 500 reviews from 2021 and zero from the last six months loses to a business with 80 reviews accumulated in the last 90 days. The fix is a review request flow that fires after every job, not just the big ones.
