Mobile-First Indexing
Google primarily uses the mobile version of a site for indexing and ranking, defaulting to the smartphone Googlebot.
Mobile-first indexing has been the Google default since 2020. The mobile version of your site is the version Google evaluates for ranking. Desktop-only content, hidden mobile menus that bury links, or different page templates between mobile and desktop can hurt rankings.
For local businesses, the practical implication is: mobile UX is the primary UX. Test on mobile first, optimize Core Web Vitals on mobile first.
